You have found a silver brand online and, quite rightly, you want proof before you pay. The short answer to "is Smith Jewels real silver" is yes: the metal in every piece we sell is 925 sterling silver, stamped 925 and handcrafted in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and none of it is silver-plated or a mixed alloy. Every order comes with an authenticity certificate confirming the silver is 925, and this page shows you how to check a piece yourself.

I am Nandita, and I started Smith Jewels. This page gives straight answers to what people want to know before buying from us: the metal, the stamp, who makes our jewellery and where, why it tarnishes, and how shipping and returns work. Where we do not offer something, I say so. You will not find star ratings or testimonials here, only things you can check.

Is Smith Jewels real silver? What the metal is

Yes. The metal in every Smith Jewels piece is 925 sterling silver, and every piece is stamped 925. 925 sterling silver is an alloy that is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper, which are added for strength; the number simply means 925 parts of silver in every 1,000 parts of metal. Fine silver, for comparison, is 99.9% silver.

When I started Smith Jewels, the rule was simple: only 925 sterling silver, real silver all the way through. Our jewellery is not silver-plated, not a mixed alloy and not "silver-toned". Before anything is packed and shipped, it goes through quality checks.

Here is the uncomfortable part of this industry: a 925 stamp is only as honest as the hand that strikes it. Mixed alloys get stamped 925 too, and plated brass gets sold online as silver. That is exactly why I would rather you check us than simply trust us, and the rest of this page shows you how.

The 925 stamp and the authenticity certificate

Every Smith Jewels piece is stamped 925. The stamp is our statement that the metal is 925 sterling silver, and we put our name behind it. It can be very small, so a phone camera on zoom is the easiest way to find it.

Every order also comes with an authenticity certificate confirming the silver is 925. We issue that certificate ourselves, as our written statement of the metal you bought. Keep it with your order details, the same way you would keep a bill.

A stamp and a certificate are both promises on paper and in metal. The proof is in how the silver behaves once you wear it, and that is something you can watch for yourself, which is why the next sections matter as much as this one.

Who makes Smith Jewels, and where?

Smith Jewels is a Jaipur brand. I am a Delhi girl, the daughter of an Air Force officer, and when we moved to Jaipur I found myself in a city where silver is still made the old way, by hand, by karigars who have done this work for generations. Our family has worked with silver since 1985.

My son Aditya runs technology and operations. We have our own workshop and production in Jaipur, and Aditya built the systems that take a piece from that workshop to your door, with no middlemen in between. More than 40,000 women across India have bought from us.

Most of our pieces are made to order, which means a piece is made after you order it. Our jewellery is handcrafted and hand-finished, so small variations in finishing can occur; they do not affect the silver purity. If you want to see the work, the Chandrama Nose Pin (available as a wire or a clip-on), the Infinity Toe-Rings, sold as a pair, and the Pearl Droplets Earrings are good places to start.

Is Smith Jewels silver solid or hollow?

Solid. Our About page says it in three words: no hollow pieces. A hollow piece is built around an empty core, so it can look as large as a solid one while using less silver. We do not make jewellery that way. Our rings, chains and bracelets are made to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer because you are afraid they will break.

One detail you may notice: the small bell charms on some of our payal are hollow by design, because a bell has to be hollow to ring.

Why does Smith Jewels silver tarnish?

Because it is real. Tarnish is silver reacting with sulphur compounds in the air, in sweat, in cosmetics and in pollution, which forms a thin dark layer of silver sulphide on the surface. Humidity speeds it up. It is chemistry, not a defect, and it wipes off.

To slow it down, wipe your piece with a soft silver cloth after wearing it, keep it away from water, perfume and household chemicals, and store it in the pouch that comes with every order. My full routine is in our silver care guide, and the chemistry is explained in does real silver tarnish?

Shipping, delivery and returns in detail

Orders are usually dispatched within 2 to 5 working days, and Sundays and public holidays are not counted. Because most of our jewellery is made to order, some pieces need extra crafting, finishing or quality-check time. If you need a piece by a particular date, contact our support team before you place the order; we will check the product and your delivery location and confirm whether faster delivery is possible. Tracking details are shared once your order ships, and delivery time after dispatch depends on the destination and courier.

International orders are prepaid only and are processed within 7 to 10 business days. The standard delivery timeline is up to 20 business days, and customs clearance can cause delays. Import duties or taxes charged by the destination country are paid by the recipient.

For domestic orders, if something is not right, tell us within 7 days of delivery. Items must be unworn, in their original packaging, with tags intact. A flat ₹250 is deducted for return pickup and delivery, and refunds are processed within 5 to 7 business days after we receive the return. If you are ordering a personalised piece, read the full Shipping & Return policy before you order. If an order arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us as soon as possible with your order number and clear photographs of the item and packaging.

What I would tell you if you asked me in person

Test us rather than trust us. When your piece arrives, find the 925 stamp; it can be very small, so a phone camera on zoom helps. Then wear it for a few weeks and watch it. Real silver slowly darkens where it meets air and skin, and a soft silver cloth brings the shine back. If you are comparing other sellers, remember that German silver contains no silver at all; it is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel that trades on its name. Our guide on how to tell if silver is real before you buy online covers the rest.

And if you are ever unsure about a piece, from us or from anyone else, send a close-up photo of the stamp to us on WhatsApp through our Contact Us page. I would rather answer the question than leave you wondering.

I would also tell you what we do not do. We do not offer buyback, a lifetime warranty, or free resizing or polishing, and I would rather say that here than have you assume otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Does Smith Jewels jewellery come with a certificate?

Yes. Every order comes with an authenticity certificate confirming the silver is 925. We issue it ourselves, as our written statement of the metal you bought, and every piece is also stamped 925. Keep the certificate with your order details, and if you ever have a question about a piece, send us a close-up photo on WhatsApp.

Can I wear Smith Jewels silver every day?

Yes. Our rings, chains and bracelets are made to be worn daily. Real silver will tarnish with wear, so wipe your piece with a soft silver cloth after wearing it, keep it away from water, perfume and household chemicals, and store it in the pouch that comes with your order.

Will my piece look exactly like the product photo?

Small variations in finishing can occur, because our pieces are worked on by hand. They are part of the character of handcrafted jewellery and do not affect silver purity. Before ordering, check the measurements and sizing information on the product page, and contact us if anything is unclear.

How do I choose the right size?

Check the measurements and sizing information on the product page before you order. If you are unsure about the size of a ring, anklet, toe ring or bracelet, contact us before placing the order rather than guessing, because domestic returns need the piece unworn, in its original packaging and with tags intact.

How do I contact Smith Jewels?

Use our Contact Us page to reach us on WhatsApp or by email. If you are asking about an existing order, include your order number so we can help you faster. If you need a piece by a specific date, message us before you place the order so we can confirm what is possible.
