You have a list of nine people, Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, and you do not want to send another box of kaju katli that is finished in two days. My Diwali gift ideas this year are simple: one real silver piece per person, picked for the way that person actually lives, and ordered early enough to reach them before Dhanteras.
Below is the list I would make myself, person by person: mother, wife, sister, bhabhi, a friend, father, brother, a child and a colleague. Every piece here is handcrafted in 925 sterling silver in our Jaipur workshop and stamped 925. For each one I have said why it suits that person, which budget band it sits in, and when you need to order it so it arrives on time.
In short
- Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is on Sunday 8 November 2026, Dhanteras on Friday 6 November and Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November.
- Most of our pieces are made to order and usually dispatch within 2 to 5 working days, not counting Sundays and public holidays. Dussehra on Tuesday 20 October is one of those holidays.
- For Dhanteras delivery, order ready designs by Sunday 25 October. Personalised name or initial pieces take 15 to 20 days to process and have no cash on delivery, so do not count on one arriving before Diwali.
- 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Look for that number on any silver gift before you pay.
- Pieces that need no size (earrings, charms, bookmarks) are the safest gifts when you cannot ask.
Diwali gift ideas, person by person
I have kept this to one or two pieces per person on purpose. A list of fifty options is how you end up buying nothing until the Saturday before Diwali.
For your mother: a silver lotus for her books
Diwali is Lakshmi's night, and the lotus is her flower. The Lakshmi Kamal Bookmark is a layered silver lotus of about 4 grams, with a clip that holds the page without creasing it. It suits the mother who reads her paath every morning or keeps a novel by the bed, and she will use it daily instead of keeping it in the almirah "for good".
If your mother follows Vaishnava practice and already wears tulsi, the Handmade Tulsi Kanthi Mala pairs tulsi beads with silver elements and comes in 16, 18 and 22 inch lengths. Measure an old mala of hers before you choose.
For your wife: something she will wear on a Tuesday
Festive jewellery is easy to buy and hard to wear twice. I would rather give a wife something she reaches for on an ordinary Tuesday in November. The Whisper Pearl Minimal Bracelet is a single freshwater pearl on a fine silver chain, set so it sits centred on the wrist instead of rolling round. At about 3 grams it goes under a jumper sleeve at work and over a silk saree at the puja.
If you would rather give her name or initials in silver, know that personalised pieces take 15 to 20 days to process before they ship, and they are prepaid only, with no cash on delivery. One ordered now may not reach her by Diwali, so give a ready piece on the day and let the name piece follow later.
For your sister: pearls that move
The Pearl Droplets Earrings are small pearls of different sizes falling in a short cascade, sold as a pair and listed at about 2 grams. They are light enough for a long evening of card parties and visiting, and pearl with silver sits well with almost any colour she wears this season. If you are her brother, keep this one in mind for Bhai Dooj too.
For your bhabhi: a jhumka she can wear after the puja
A bhabhi gift has to be festive enough for the family puja and sensible enough to wear afterwards. The Mini Jhumka with Pearl Drops takes the traditional jhumka shape and makes it small, with pearl drops that swing as she moves. At about 3 grams on the listing it stays light, so she can wear it with a saree on Diwali night and with a kurta at a December wedding.
For a friend: no piercing question
Friends are tricky because you rarely know whether her ears are pierced once, twice or not at all. The Unisex Gumbad Ear Clip avoids the question: it is a small silver dome, the gumbad of Indo-Islamic architecture, made as a clip-on, so no piercing is needed. It is also what I would pick for a friend who already owns a lot of earrings, because a single clip worn high on the ear is the one thing she probably does not have.
For your father: a bookmark for the man who needs nothing
Fathers say they need nothing, and most of them still read every day. The Om Essence Bookmark is about 6 grams of silver with a clip made to grip without marking the page, and it works in paperbacks, hardcovers, journals and planners. It sits on his desk all year, which is more than a new shirt manages. If you would rather put his name on a bookmark, we wrote a whole piece on personalised silver bookmarks. Personalised pieces take 15 to 20 days to process and have no cash on delivery, so treat a name bookmark as a gift that arrives after Diwali, not on it.
For your brother: silver for the smartwatch
A watch charm is a small piece of silver that clips onto a watch strap, usually a smartwatch band, so the wearer can make a plain silicone or leather strap his own without changing the watch or adding another accessory. The Mahadev Unisex Watch Charm carries the Mahadev inscription, weighs about 2 grams and is understated enough for an office. There is more on how people wear them in our guide to silver watch charms.
For a child: a silver nazarbattu
A nazarbattu is a black or red thread bracelet, often finished with a silver bead or charm, that many Indian families tie on a child's wrist in the traditional belief that it keeps away nazar, the evil eye. It is a custom, not a guarantee, and families follow it in many different ways.
The Kids Silver Ball Nazarbattu is a single silver ball on adjustable cord in two sizes: Small adjusts from 6 to 9 cm and Large from 8 to 11.5 cm. Measure the child's wrist with a strip of paper before you order. For babies and toddlers, check with your paediatrician first and let them wear it only while an adult is watching. Our longer piece on nazar battu jewellery covers the tradition properly.
For a colleague: neutral but not boring
Office gifts need to feel chosen without being too personal. The Lotus Watch Charm is a layered silver lotus of about 2 grams that sits flush against the strap. It works for a man or a woman, and the lotus means something across many Indian traditions, which makes it an easy choice for a mixed team.
Silver Diwali gifts by budget
The whole list on one screen. Bands reflect our prices at the time of writing. Silver rates move, so check the ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 and ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 collections for what is current.

When to order for Diwali 2026
Most of what we make is made to order, which is why the dates matter more than they would with a warehouse. Dispatch usually takes 2 to 5 working days, and working days here means Monday to Saturday, minus public holidays. After dispatch, the courier still needs its time to reach your city.
- Personalised name or initial pieces: these take 15 to 20 days to process before dispatch, plus courier time, and are prepaid only (no cash on delivery). I cannot promise one will arrive before Dhanteras or Diwali, so choose a ready design for the festival itself, and message us on the contact page before ordering a name piece.
- Ready designs for Dhanteras (Friday 6 November) or Diwali (Sunday 8 November): order by Sunday 25 October. Even at the slow end of our dispatch window, that leaves close to a week for the courier.
- Bhai Dooj (Wednesday 11 November in India): order by Thursday 29 October. For family abroad, see the questions below.
These are my rules of thumb, not a promise, because courier times vary by pin code. If a date really matters, write to us before you pay and we will tell you honestly whether it is possible.
Why silver beats the dry fruit box
Here is what nobody in the gifting aisle will say out loud: the dry fruit box is forgotten by Bhai Dooj. It is eaten, passed on to the next house or pushed to the back of a cupboard within the week. A silver bracelet is still on her wrist at the next Diwali, and that is the whole argument.
Silver also belongs to this festival. In many Indian families, Dhanteras is traditionally considered an auspicious day to buy gold, silver and new utensils, which is why so many people time their silver buying for that Friday. Bhai Dooj, which falls on Wednesday 11 November this year, is when brothers and sisters traditionally exchange gifts.
The second truth is less comfortable. A lot of Diwali "silver" is not silver. Gift sets sold as "silver-toned" or "silver finish" are often plated base metal, and German silver contains no silver at all: it is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel. Real 925 sterling silver is 92.5% silver, and a seller who uses it will say so in plain numbers. If a listing will not tell you the purity, that is your answer.
One more thing worth knowing before you gift: every Smith Jewels piece is stamped 925, and every order comes with an authenticity certificate confirming the silver is 925. When the parcel arrives, look for that small 925 stamp on the piece itself. Our guide on how to tell if silver is real before you buy online walks through the checks one by one.
What I tell people who ask me what to give
When people ask me what to give, my answer is always the same: buy for the person's ordinary Tuesday, not for the one night of Diwali. Our family has worked with silver since 1985, and the pieces that get worn are the ones that fit a real routine, the morning paath, the office commute, the school run.
Avoid rings and bangles when you cannot ask for a size. Every pick above needs no size, or only a simple measurement. Write a note by hand and tuck it into the pouch every order comes in; the pouch is also where the piece should live when it is not being worn.
And warn them, kindly, that real silver tarnishes. Silver reacts with sulphur compounds in the air, in sweat and in cosmetics to form a thin dark layer of silver sulphide, and it wipes off with a soft silver cloth. That darkening is chemistry, not a fault, and it is one of the surest signs the gift is real. We wrote more about it in does real silver tarnish.
If the gift is not quite right, tell us within 7 days of delivery on a domestic order, with the piece unworn and tags intact; a flat ₹250 is deducted for pickup and delivery. Personalised pieces have their own terms, so read the shipping and refund policy first.
Frequently asked questions
Is silver a good gift for Diwali?
Yes. Silver has long been part of Diwali, and many families traditionally buy it on Dhanteras. A piece of 925 sterling silver jewellery is worn for years, unlike sweets or dry fruits, and it suits every age from a child's nazarbattu to a father's bookmark. Check that the seller states the purity clearly before you buy.
What can I gift on Diwali under ₹2,000?
Silver watch charms, light pearl earrings and clip-on ear cuffs are the strongest picks under ₹2,000. At the time of writing, our Mahadev and Lotus watch charms, Pearl Droplets Earrings and Unisex Gumbad Ear Clip all sit in the ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 band. Silver rates move, so check the collection page for current pieces before you order.
Can I send a silver Diwali gift abroad?
Yes, we ship internationally on prepaid orders, but there are no returns or exchanges on international orders, so choose pieces that need no size. Bhai Dooj falls on Tuesday 10 November 2026 in the UK, USA, Canada and the UAE, and international parcels travel further, so order well before the Indian dates above.
Will a silver gift turn black?
Over time, yes, because real silver tarnishes when it meets sulphur in air, sweat and cosmetics. It is a surface layer that wipes off with a soft silver cloth. Keeping the piece in its pouch, away from perfume and water, slows it down. A gift that never darkens at all is more likely plated or mixed alloy.
Diwali gift ideas that are still worn next Diwali
So, my Diwali gift ideas in one line: one real silver piece per person, chosen for their everyday life rather than one evening, and ordered by late October so it reaches them before Dhanteras. Pick from the list, measure the two people who need a size, and send the rest of the family something they will still be wearing at Bhai Dooj next year. Real Silver. Made to be worn every day.
